[KW009] Story Continuation: The Mask of the Billionaire Heir

The air in the VIP lounge seemed to freeze. Xinnia’s fist, a weapon that had shattered bones and dismantled entire underground syndicates, hovered merely a millimeter from Ron’s striking jawline.

For a fraction of a second, the spoiled, arrogant facade of the billionaire heir vanished. In his eyes, Xinnia saw the cold, calculated stare of a predator. His posture had shifted flawlessly, his center of gravity dropping just enough to absorb an impact, his left hand twitching upward in a perfect textbook parry.

Then, just as quickly as it appeared, the lethal glint in his eyes dissolved. Ron dramatically threw himself backward, crashing onto the plush velvet sofa, taking the terrified girl beside him down with him.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa! Are you crazy?!” Ron yelled, his voice cracking with feigned panic. He massaged his jaw, though her fist hadn’t even grazed his skin. “My father pays you millions to protect me, not to assassinate me! Are you out of your mind, Xinnia?”

Xinnia slowly pulled her arm back, adjusting the cuff of her leather jacket. Her icy gaze never left his face. The intelligence dossier from the VIP Protection Agency was explicit: Ron Sterling. Age 25. Playboy. Zero combat experience. Requires constant supervision. “My apologies, Mr. Sterling,” Xinnia said, her voice dripping with dangerous calmness. “There was a mosquito. Right on your cheek. I was simply doing my job to protect you from… external threats.”

“A mosquito?” Ron scoffed, waving a hand dismissively. “In a climate-controlled penthouse suite? You’re a terrible liar, Xinnia. And a violently aggressive one at that. Get out of my sight. Wait outside the door. I need a drink to calm my nerves.”

The young woman beside him scrambled up, clearly shaken, and poured him a glass of expensive bourbon. Xinnia didn’t argue. She turned on her heels and walked toward the heavy oak doors, but not before stealing one last glance at him through the mirror above the minibar. Ron was sipping his drink, but his eyes were locked on her reflection. The playboy mask was slipping.

Once outside in the dimly lit hallway, Xinnia tapped her earpiece. “Headquarters, this is Agent Xinnia. I need a full re-evaluation of the principal’s background. Deep dive. Dig into his gap year in Southeast Asia and his private tutors. The intel is flawed.”

“Copy that, Xinnia. Is the principal in danger?” the dispatcher asked.

“Not from me,” she murmured. “But he’s hiding something. And in this line of work, secrets get people killed.”

Later that evening, the neon lights of the city painted the interior of the armored SUV in shades of electric blue and crimson. Xinnia was behind the wheel, navigating the rain-slicked streets toward the annual Sterling Corporate Gala. Ron sat in the back, scrolling through his phone, seemingly oblivious to the world.

“You have a remarkable reflex system for a man who claims his heaviest lifting is carrying a champagne flute,” Xinnia noted without taking her eyes off the road.

Ron didn’t look up. “I play a lot of virtual reality tennis. It does wonders for hand-eye coordination.”

“VR tennis doesn’t teach you the foundational stance of Krav Maga,” she countered smoothly. “When I threw that punch, your weight shifted to your back foot, ready for a counter-strike. Your eyes tracked the kinetic movement of my shoulder, not my fist. That’s elite tactical training.”

Ron finally locked his phone and leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees. The playful demeanor evaporated entirely. The atmosphere inside the car grew dense.

“You’re very observant, Miss Qinghuan,” Ron said, using her real name, a name only highly classified intelligence files held.

Xinnia’s grip on the steering wheel tightened, but her voice remained steady. “Who exactly am I protecting, Ron? Because if you are a trained operative, my presence here is a redundancy. Or worse, a liability.”

“You are here because my uncle hired you,” Ron replied, his voice a low, serious rumble. “He hired the best in the business to ‘protect’ me, knowing full well that whoever is trying to kill me will have to go through you first. You aren’t just my bodyguard, Xinnia. You are my human shield. And if you die protecting me, my uncle has a perfect excuse to seize control of the Sterling Empire.”

Before Xinnia could process the corporate espionage at play, an explosion rocked the street. The SUV in front of them violently flipped into the air, bursting into a brilliant ball of orange flame.

“Ambush!” Xinnia shouted, slamming the brakes and spinning the steering wheel to position their armored vehicle defensively.

Four black vans screeched to a halt around them, boxing them in. Heavily armed mercenaries clad in tactical gear poured out, leveling automatic rifles at their SUV.

“Stay down!” Xinnia ordered, drawing her dual suppressed tactical pistols.

“I don’t do ‘down’ anymore,” Ron said calmly. He reached under the backseat, his hand clicking a hidden biometric lock. A hidden compartment slid open, revealing two custom tactical combat knives and a specialized compact submachine gun.

Xinnia stared at him, stunned for a microsecond. “Are you kidding me?”

“The element of surprise is a beautiful thing, isn’t it?” Ron winked, racking the bolt of his weapon. “My uncle sent his private syndicate. They think I’m a soft, spoiled brat. Let’s not disappoint them until the very last second.”

The mercenaries opened fire. Bullets rained against the bulletproof glass, creating terrifying spiderweb cracks. The glass wouldn’t hold for long against sustained automatic fire.

“On three,” Xinnia said, a fierce, adrenaline-fueled smile creeping onto her face. It had been a long time since she had a partner who could keep up. “We take the left flank. Move to the alleyway.”

“I’ll take the three guys by the nearest van. You handle the rooftop sniper,” Ron stated, his tactical assessment flawless.

“One,” Xinnia counted.

“Two,” Ron added, gripping his weapon tightly.

“Three!”

Xinnia kicked her door open, rolling out onto the wet asphalt while simultaneously firing two precise shots that took down the front-line attackers. She moved like a phantom, fluid and lethal, just as the legends said.

But out of the corner of her eye, she watched Ron. He didn’t cower. He burst from the opposite door with terrifying speed, moving with the brutal efficiency of a trained assassin. He dodged a hail of bullets, slid across the hood of a parked car, and engaged three heavily armed men in close-quarters combat. He disarmed the first with a bone-snapping twist, used the man’s vest as armor against the second, and neutralized the third with a sweeping kick that defied gravity.

Xinnia took out the sniper with a calculated shot, breathing heavily as the street fell into an eerie silence, save for the crackling flames of the destroyed cars.

Ron stood amidst the fallen mercenaries, adjusting his ruined designer suit jacket. He looked over at Xinnia, offering a charming, yet dangerous smile.

“So,” Ron said casually, stepping over a neutralized threat. “How about we renegotiate our contract? I think we make a pretty good team.”

Xinnia holstered her weapons, walking slowly toward the billionaire heir who was, in reality, a hidden master of combat.

“No more secrets, Ron,” Xinnia warned, though the respect in her eyes was undeniable. “Next time I throw a punch, you better hit back.”

“Deal,” he grinned. The night was far from over, but for the first time, Xinnia knew her mission was no longer a babysitting job. It was a war. And they were going to win.
