[SC014] The Story Continues…

“My level of ‘delulu’ is exactly what got us two million views on the indoor snowstorm video, Sam,” Mikey whispered harshly into the tiny microphone clipped to the collar of his black tactical turtleneck.

It was 2:00 AM, a week after they had studied the digital blueprints. The crisp California night air bit at Mikey’s cheeks as he crouched behind a meticulously trimmed topiary bush in the sprawling backyard of the target mansion. He was dressed like a ridiculous teenage ninja, complete with a utility belt holding custom-made gadgets that Sam had reluctantly 3D-printed.

“The indoor snowstorm almost got us sued, Mikey,” Sam’s voice crackled back through the earpiece. Miles away, safely seated in his high-tech garage command center, Sam was currently staring at four different monitors. “And for the record, this is breaking and entering. If you get caught, I am deleting my hard drives and moving to Canada.”

“I won’t get caught,” Mikey insisted, tapping the side of his night-vision goggles. “Just hack the patio door already. I’m freezing out here.”

“I don’t ‘hack’ doors, you watch too many movies,” Sam sighed. “I’m sending a spoofed frequency to the smart-lock receiver. Just give it a second.”

A soft, mechanical click echoed from the massive glass sliding door leading into the mansion’s living room. Mikey grinned. “See? We’re a well-oiled machine.”

Mikey slid the door open and slipped inside, stepping onto plush, obscenely expensive white carpet. The house was dead silent, save for the faint humming of a massive, double-door smart refrigerator in the open-plan kitchen. The moonlight filtered through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting long, dramatic shadows across the modern furniture.

“Okay, I’m in,” Mikey whispered, moving with exaggerated, slow-motion stealth steps. “I’m heading for the stairs. Keep an eye on the motion sensors.”

“The first-floor sensors are on a five-minute loop,” Sam instructed, the rapid clicking of his keyboard audible over the comms. “You have exactly four minutes and twenty seconds to get up those stairs before the system resets and flags you. Move.”

Mikey crept through the living room, passing a massive 85-inch television and a glass coffee table. As he approached the grand, sweeping staircase, his foot brushed against something hidden in the shadows.

Whirrrrrr.

Mikey froze. A small, circular disc illuminated with a red glowing rim had bumped into his sneaker. It was a high-end robotic vacuum cleaner, and it had just been activated.

“Sam,” Mikey whispered in sheer panic. “The Roomba. It’s awake.”

“What? A Roomba isn’t on the blueprint!” Sam yelled, his voice spiking an octave. “Don’t let it bump you again! Some of those luxury models have built-in security cameras!”

Mikey executed a spectacular, panicked back-flip, landing entirely ungracefully on the bottom step of the staircase. The robotic vacuum bumped harmlessly into the wall where he had just been standing, spun around, and continued its cleaning path.

“I’m good. I’m on the stairs,” Mikey breathed heavily, clutching his chest. “That was almost the end of the line. I’m heading to the second floor. Blueprint says the gaming room is the third door on the left.”

He ascended the stairs, sticking to the very edge of the steps to avoid any creaking floorboards. The second-floor hallway was lined with modern art and closed, heavy wooden doors. He counted them as he moved. One. Two.

Three.

He stood before a sleek, matte-black door. Unlike the others, this one had a small digital keypad next to the handle.

“I found it,” Mikey whispered, unable to contain his excitement. “It’s locked down tight. Send me the bypass code.”

“Working on it,” Sam replied, the sound of furious typing returning. “It’s encrypted. I have to run a brute-force algorithm through the house’s main Wi-Fi router. Give me thirty seconds.”

Mikey bounced on his heels, his heart hammering against his ribs. This was it. The holy grail of their YouTube prank channel. He reached into his pocket and pulled out their ‘calling card’—a custom-made, giant neon pink sticker that read: “The Garage Boys Were Here. Subscribe for Part 2!” The plan was simple: stick it directly onto the center of SSSniperWolf’s main gaming monitor, take a selfie, and get out.

“Got it!” Sam cheered through the earpiece. “Code is 0-8-1-5. It’s entering now.”

The keypad beeped a soft, cheerful green. The heavy lock disengaged.

Mikey pushed the door open.

He had expected a cool room. He hadn’t expected to step into a spaceship. The room was bathed in pulsing, neon purple and cyan LED lights. At the center sat an immense, curved triple-monitor setup, suspended by custom hydraulic arms over a pristine white gaming desk. A liquid-cooled PC tower the size of a mini-fridge glowed with RGB fans, the coolant tubes pulsing like illuminated veins. Shelves upon shelves of rare anime figurines and YouTube creator awards lined the walls.

“Sam…” Mikey gasped, his voice trembling with genuine awe. “It’s beautiful. It’s like the Louvre, but for gamers.”

“Take the picture and get out of there!” Sam demanded. “You have sixty seconds before the downstairs sensors loop back on!”

Mikey rushed forward, peeling the backing off his giant neon pink sticker. He leaned over the massive desk, aiming perfectly for the center monitor. As he pressed the sticker down, his elbow bumped against the gaming keyboard.

Instantly, the giant monitors flared to life, casting blinding white light across the room. A massive, booming digital voice echoed from the surround sound speakers.

“INCORRECT BIOMETRIC SCAN. INTRUDER DETECTED. INITIATING LOCKDOWN.”

“Uh oh,” Mikey squeaked.

“MIKEY! WHAT DID YOU DO?!” Sam screamed so loudly Mikey had to pull the earpiece away.

The pulsing purple lights snapped to flashing emergency red. Sirens began to blare throughout the mansion. The sound of heavy metal security shutters slamming down over the ground-floor windows echoed up the stairs.

“The plan did not account for this!” Mikey yelled, abandoning all stealth as he sprinted out of the gaming room and into the hallway.

“Get to the balcony!” Sam directed frantically. “The second-floor guest room at the end of the hall has a balcony over the pool. Jump!”

Mikey didn’t hesitate. He practically tackled the guest room door, bursting through it and sprinting toward the glass doors leading outside. He threw them open, leaped over the stone railing without looking, and plummeted toward the glowing blue water below.

He hit the pool with a massive splash, instantly shorting out his earpiece and soaking his tactical turtleneck. Sputtering and gasping, he scrambled out of the water and bolted across the lawn, diving into the topiary bushes just as the property’s floodlights snapped on, illuminating the yard like a football stadium.

He laid in the dirt, shivering, listening to the sirens wail in the distance, realizing that maybe—just maybe—Sam was absolutely right about his level of delusion.
